Donald Duck marks 75th birthday

Jill Jackson King Features Syndicate

Donald Duck has quacked successfully for 75 years. And to celebrate his birthday, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It was quite a to-do with all his friends and fans in attendance as Donald quacked his thanks to one and all. Even a pack of pigeons arrived to goggle the proceedings.

Calista Flockhart jumps to the big screen to star in “Fragile,” about a nurse working in a desolate children’s hospital who struggles to keep the youngsters safe from an unknown force that hurts them so they can’t leave the facility. It’s shooting in Barcelona, Spain, and I haven’t heart yet as to whether Harrison and the baby will accompany her. And to those of you who have asked. Yes, that is her real name. In Greek, Calista means “most beautiful.” She was named for her great-grandmother.

Aside to Reba W. of Dillsboro, Ind. I do agree. Burt Reynolds has certainly had a long and varied career, and an equally long and varied love life. I haven’t gotten around to seeing “Without a Paddle” yet, but I will. Burt’s next film is about a coach whose team is a group of strippers. As for his personal life, he is now living in Los Angeles with Kate Edelman Johnson. They’ve been together for about a year now. Both are in their late 60s.

As for Burt’s former loves, let me see if I can get it straight: He was first married to Judy Carne. They divorced. He was very much in love with Dinah Shore, and vice versa, but Dinah felt their 16-year age difference was too much and wouldn’t marry. Then he dated Sally Field. When that ended he met and married Loni Anderson. They divorced, and he went into a relationship with Pam Seals. That ended, and now we’re up to Burt and Kate, and we wish them happiness. In my opinion, I think Dinah was the great love of his life.

Mary-Kate and Ashley continue to make news. This time it’s about the new million-dollar manse the girls recently purchased. It’s 4,000 square feet in West Los Angeles, with walls of glass so they can see the ocean and the mountains and downtown and all over. It has four bedrooms and five baths, a steam shower and a swimming pool. They will live there when they are not in school in New York.

Kirsten Dunst and Jake Gyllenhaal’s breakup is old news now, and there’s no new news on any other relationships. Matter of fact, at this writing she was definitely “looking around.” Spiderman’s co-star answers to the nickname Kiki. She “really enjoys cleaning and doing laundry,” or so she says. She’s the only one I know who does.

Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Kelly Preston and other names very much in evidence at the Church of Scientology’s 35th anniversary party.

Sharon Stone and Jessica Lange along with Bill Murray all set to co-star in an as-yet-unnamed film.
