Students win National Merit grants
The following area high school students have won National Merit $2,500 Scholarships, the National Merit Scholarship Corp. announced.
These Merit Scholar designees were chosen from about 15,000 finalists in the 2004 National Merit Scholarship Program.
The selection was made by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors based on each finalist’s academic record; contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay describing interests and goals; and the recommendation written by a high school official.

Lauren M. Hallett, Cheney High School. Probable career field: environmental law.

The following area students have won Merit Scholarship awards financed by colleges and universities. College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
