Sleeping man arrested on burglary charge

The Spokesman-Review

An 18-year-old Greenacres man was arrested after he was found sleeping inside a locked, fenced yard of a Spokane Valley business.

Spokane Valley Police Department officers were called to Northwest Fence Co., 14817 E. Sprague Ave., at 8:15 p.m. last Saturday. A security guard told police he caught a man sleeping inside the locked yard.

The man was identified by police as Kenji V. Honsey, 16905 E. Valleyway.

Honsey said in an interview with The Spokesman-Review that he had been drinking alcohol, blacked out and did not remember the incident.

Police searched the business and found the windshield and windows had been smashed from a 1998 Chevrolet truck owned by the business. A vending machine and fencing products also were damaged.

Police determined Honsey was responsible for the damages, which an employee estimated would exceed $6,000.

“I didn’t have any intention of breaking or stealing anything. It just happened,” Honsey said.

Officer Peter Noetzel arrested Honsey and booked him into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary and first-degree malicious mischief, both felonies.
