Sunday’s N.L. games
Giants 4, Padres 2: J.T. Snow drove in four runs from the cleanup spot, hitting a clutch tiebreaking double in San Francisco’s victory over visiting San Diego. Barry Bonds took most of the day off, appearing only to draw his major league-record 106th intentional walk as a pinch-hitter in the eighth, then leaving for a pinch-runner with the bases loaded.
Diamondbacks 3, Cardinals 2: Rick Ankiel, who has battled wildness and injury, made his first outing at Busch Stadium since May 10, 2001 and pitched two hitless innings with one walk and four strikeouts — striking out the side in the fifth — but St. Louis still fell to visiting Arizona. The Cardinals clinched their third division title in five seasons Saturday.
Dodgers 7, Rockies 6: Shawn Green homered on a two-out, 0-2 pitch off Shawn Chacon in the ninth inning as Los Angeles overcame a five-run deficit for the second time in three games to win at Colorado.
Marlins 3, Braves 0: Ismael Valdez pitched six solid innings, Jeff Conine drove in all three runs and Florida averted a sweep by beating visiting Atlanta. Florida is 4 1/2 games behind wild-card leader San Francisco.
Cubs 5, Reds 1: Moises Alou hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the ninth inning as Chicago won in Cincinnati, the team’s sixth win in seven games. Chicago is a half-game behind San Francisco in the wild-card race.
Astros 1, Brewers 0: Roger Clemens (18-4) won his sixth straight start and got his 328th victory, allowing two hits in eight innings and striking out 10 as Houston completed a three-game sweep of visiting Milwaukee.
Phillies 7, Expos 2: Kevin Millwood pitched two innings in his return from the DL and Philadelphia belted out 14 hits en route to a win over visiting Montreal.
Pirates 1-6, Mets 0-1: Jason Bay hit a two-run homer to set a team rookie record with 24 and Dave Williams pitched six shutout innings to help Pittsburgh complete a doubleheader sweep of visiting New York. The Pirates won the first game on catcher Humberto Cota’s home run and a combined three-hitter by Ryan Vogelsong, Salomon Torres and Jose Mesa.
