Brown’s goal allows CdA’s girls to tie Sandpoint in IEL

Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint played to a 2-all tie in an Inland Empire League girls soccer showdown at Sandpoint Thursday.

CdA’s Chelsea Brown scored at the 31-minute mark to even the score, and the two teams played a scoreless second half.

In another IEL match, Lake City scored three unanswered goals in the second half to edge visiting Moscow 4-2. Freshman forward Ciara Kremer had a pair of goals for the Timberwolves, who got the game-winning goal from senior forward Becca Jewell in the 71st minute.

Boys soccer

Joe Hanich had a goal and an assist as Coeur d’Alene beat visiting Sandpoint 2-1 in the IEL. The senior midfielder took a feed from Justin Honsaker early in the match to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead, then put his side up 2-0 by feeding Skyler Anderson 18 minutes later.

Volleyball

Kellogg staked Bonners Ferry to a 2-0 lead in the team’s Intermountain League battle at Kellogg, then roared back to deny the Badgers their first victory of the season, 19-25, 17-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-13. Lauren Peterson’s block swung the momentum toward the Wildcats in the fifth game. Cami Wendt’s spike capped the comeback. … St. Maries received eight kills and five blocks from Kelsi Lee and 25 assists from Erin Sather to spark a 3-0 sweep of visiting Priest River.

•Visiting Post Falls swept Coeur d’Alene 3-0 in an IEL match. Hannah Mundy had seven kills and 14 assists for PF, and Jackie Murinko added three aces and 11 digs. … Lauren Stern dished off a game-high 34 assists to lead Lake City to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Moscow. Kristi Tuntland added 14 kills and eight digs for LC, and Rene Bordelon served up an ace to score the game-winning point. … Sandpoint rolled to a 3-0 win over visiting Lakeland. Ashley Beck had eight kills and Mindy Meyer had 15 assists and nine digs to lead Lakeland.

•Clark Fork swept visiting Coeur d’Alene Charter 3-0 in the North Star League. CF’s Jolene Meridith had seven kills, seven aces and a dozen digs. Kalyn Lovlyn had five kills and four aces to lead CdA Charter. … Kootenai received 12 digs and 14 kills from Hannah Nyrop to spark a 3-1 win over visiting Wallace at Harrison. Cassie Scheffelmaier passed off 36 assists for Kootenai. … Lakeside never trailed in the fifth and deciding game to rally past visiting Mullan 27-25, 25-16, 19-25, 23-25, 15-10 at Plummer.
