Sandpoint receiver Mahler plays some beautiful music
Blake Mahler spent enough time in the end zone to qualify as a resident.
The Sandpoint senior wide receiver caught six passes for 172 yards and four touchdowns, and added a 68-yard punt return for a fifth as his Bulldogs rolled to a 49-7 win over Bonners Ferry in a non-league football game at Sandpoint Friday.
The senior tallied 38 of his team’s 49 points, totaling 172 receiving yards on six catches.
Mahler and quarterback Eric DeMers combined on touchdown passes of 54, 24, 33 and 37 yards.
DeMers added a fifth TD pass, connecting with Dan Parrish from 43 yards out to complete Sandpoint’s scoring, and opened the scoring with a 40-yard run. The senior quarterback completed 9 of 12 passes for 215 yards.
Bonners Ferry scored its lone TD on a 35-yard fumble recovery.
“Coeur d’Alene rolled to a 34-21 halftime lead and held on to take a 46-28 win at Meridian of Boise. The Vikings piled up 442 rushing yards. Junior running back Kevin Ah-Hi scored five TDs, rolling up 263 yards on 11 carries. Senior Greg Le covered 158 yards on 11 carries and scored twice, including a 74-yard run in the second quarter. Ah-Hi scored on runs of 26, 75, 21, 73 and 34 yards. … Kevin Hatch rushed for two TDs as Freeman won its third consecutive game, topping visiting Priest River 12-0. The Scotties have not allowed a TD through their first three games.

Lake City rolled to a 47-0 lead through three quarters and held on for a 47-20 win at Moscow. Ben Widmer completed 17 of 23 passes for 242 yards and a pair of TDs and carried six times for 87 yards and three more scores for the Timberwolves. Kyle Ferebee added a 74-yard scoring run. … Post Falls stayed unbeaten, handing Lewiston a 45-27 loss at Lewiston. Junior Daniel Hamilton rushed for three TDs and senior Mike Kuber ran for a TD and returned the opening kickoff 87 yards for score.
North Star League
Heath Peterson scored three TDs on 11 carries to lead visiting Wallace past Mullan 34-14. Peterson scored on a 75-yard breakaway in the second quarter, added a 25-yard scamper in the third and capped his evening with a 21-yard dash in the fourth. Despite having TD runs totaling 121 yards, he finished with just 89 yards rushing. Joe Ploharz had 17 carries for 105 yards and a TD for Mullan. … Quarterback Clayton Hewitt ran for four TDs and passed for a fifth as visiting Clark Fork buried Lakeside 62-20 at Plummer. The senior scored on runs of 8, 45, 22, and 45 yards and added a 33-yard pass for a TD. … Post Falls Christian needed to stop Kootenai’s two-point conversion attempt in the fourth quarter to score a 14-12 win over the host Warriors at Harrison. Quarterback Donald Cansino scored on a 52-yard run and returned a punt 60 yards for another for the Eagles. Tony Kraack rushed for 144 yards on 23 carries for Kootenai.

University of Spokane posted a 14-10 win over visiting Clarkston in the Greater Spokane League. Blake Kenworthy trucked over from the 4 with 40 seconds left to lift the Titans. … Nick Ashley had three long TD runs in the first quarter as Lind-Ritzville rolled to a 52-0 Northeast B-11 win over visiting Springdale. Ashley needed just six carries to roll up 197 yards rushing, scoring on runs of 74, 24 and 89 yards. Quarterback Travis Dewald completed 5 of 8 passes for 119 yards and a pair of TDs. … Sprague-Harrington’s Josh Adams caught four passes, three for TDs, as the Falcons crushed visiting Mansfield 44-8 in a Northeast B-8 showdown. Adams caught a pair of 32-yard TD passes from Theo Warner sandwiched around a 31-yarder and added a 1-yard scoring run. … In the Southeast B-8 League, Thomas Jacobs caught five passes for 129 yards and three TDs as Colton/Pullman Christian rolled over host Prescott 30-13. Jacobs pulled in scoring passes of 15, 9 and 40 yards from quarterback Kyle Kelly, who was 9 of 18 for 150 yards. … Myles Keogh rushed for three touchdowns and reeled in a Brandt Ellingburg pass for a third as visiting Cusick spanked Curlew 42-6 in a non-league B-8 contest on the Cougars’ home field. Keogh opened the scoring with a 69-yard scoring pass, then scored on runs of 1, 6 and 2 yards, piling up 119 rushing yards on 19 carries for the Panthers. Lorne Doman scored a pair of goals as St. Maries posted a 5-1 Intermountain League victory over visiting Priest River. The senior forward scored 11 minutes into the game to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead, then added a second goal 15 minutes into the second half. St. Maries dominated play, outshooting the Spartans 28-3.
Girls soccer
Senior Jessica Ware‘s two goals spelled the difference as host St. Maries downed Priest River in an IML match. Kelci Demarsh set up Ware’s first-half goal and added an insurance goal in the 69th minute.
