Wayward moose returned to mountains

GREAT FALLS — A moose that lumbered into a neighborhood here is in the Little Belt Mountains, after being shot with tranquilizers by wildlife officials and moved.

The adult bull wandered into the neighborhood Thursday, causing school officials to keep students indoors at two schools nearby.

Police urged other people to stay inside as the moose ventured near a fast-food restaurant, a gasoline station and a church.

“Moose will go where they want to go,” said Bruce Auchly, information officer for the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

Earlier in the day the moose strolled in a field along Interstate 15, bringing some cars to a halt.
