District ended with $964,040

For the 2000-‘01 school year, the East Valley School District had an ending fund balance of $964,040. Because of incorrect information provided to the newspaper, the wrong amount was published in an Aug. 25 article.

Errors in article about Farragut

The Farragut Naval Training Center was commissioned in August 1942 and decommissioned in 1947. Blue baseball-style caps were not issued to U.S. Navy sailors until after World War II, and those with the ship’s name printed on them were not authorized until the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.

Because of wrong information provided to a reporter, both facts were misstated in a Sept. 12 article.

Wolverton, Mielke run for seat

Linda Wolverton and Todd Mielke are running to fill the Spokane County Commission seat being vacated by Commissioner John Roskelley.

Because of a reporting error, a Tuesday story said the seat was being pursued by Mark Richard and Bill Burke. They are running for a different commissioner seat. Because of an editing error, Roskelley’s name was misspelled in the headline for the same story.

Man gave swans to city, park

Because of an editing error, a headline in Tuesday’s paper about Spokane patron Helen South Alexander mistakenly said Alexander’s husband gave her a gift of swans. Her husband gave the swans to the city and Manito Park.

Falcon is ‘sensitive species’

The peregrine falcon has been downgraded from endangered species to “sensitive species” in Washington state.

Because of incorrect information provided to the newspaper, the status of the falcon was misidentified in a dog park story on Monday.
