Chain stores to occupy Post Falls mini-mall

Some familiar businesses will occupy the Highway 41 Center, a mini-mall to open in November between Wendy’s Restaurant and Mullan Road in Post Falls.
Three of the four occupants of the 6,500-square-foot building are Starbucks Coffee, Subway sandwich shop and Check Into Cash. All three plan to be in their new spaces for Thanksgiving.
Starbucks will be in 1,600 square feet in the north end of the building. The store will have about 15 employees. With its headquarters in Seattle since its founding in 1971, the company has about 9,900 outlets in 34 countries.
Check Into Cash, which offers advances on payroll checks by holding personal checks for a fee, has 1,200 square feet in the center of the building. The company has about 1,000 stores in 30 states and was started in 1993 in Cleveland, Tenn.
Offering sandwiches, salads, soups and extras, Subway has 1,800 square feet in the south end of the building. The 39-year-old company began when a 17-year-old lad from a housing project wanted money to go to college and got the sandwich idea and a $1,000 loan for a small store from his family doctor.
Subway now has more than 22,000 stores in 74 countries. Yes, that’s amazing. However, McDonald’s has more than 30,000 stores in 119 countries. (I didn’t know there were that many countries, let alone the stores.)
The mini-mall’s fourth space of 1,900 square feet is available through the owner, Baker Construction Co. of Spokane.
Floral shop opens
Offering custom, detailed work in floral arrangements and decorating, Malmaison is a new store at 1522 Sherman Ave., Coeur d’Alene.
Owner Yvonne Dailey uses her expertise with a variety of styles and designs using high-quality fabric. With 30 years of experience, her work recently was featured on the cover of Wedding Celebrations magazine.
Originally from Norwalk, Calif., she came to North Idaho with her family a year ago when her husband was transferred through his job. Her store is named Malmaison after a famous French garden that Napoleon gave to his Lady Josephine. Strangely, Malmaison means “mad house.”
Hours at the Coeur d’Alene store, just east of the Cottage Gallery, are 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Its open house will be Oct. 9. Phone (208) 440-0436.
Barbershop expands, helps NIC
Gentlemen’s Quarters has doubled its personnel.
Mike Brockhoff of the former Cut & Buzz shop on Government Way this week joined forces with Gussie O’Connor of Gentlemen’s Quarters in Suite 109 of Harbor Plaza on Northwest Boulevard in Coeur d’Alene.
From each haircut associated with North Idaho College staff and students ($10 for students and $12 for employees), $2 goes to scholarships administered by the NIC Foundation.
The only barbershop in the downtown area, the shop opens at 7:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 8:30 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays. It closes at 7 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Phone (208) 769-9773.
A couple of tidbits
• With expertise in business needs, networking and applications and repairs, Bob Stipek opened R.W. Stipek Inc., computer consulting at 9297 Government Way, Hayden. Phone (208) 661-2050.
• Comments continue to come in about the 14-screen cinema complex under construction in the Riverstone development off Northwest Boulevard. If the Showboat and Coeur d’Alene Cinema close when the new one opens, folks who live north of the freeway will have to travel farther. Yup, they will, but they also can go to the Discount Cinema in Prairie Shopping Center.
