Panhandle picks with greg lee

I guess I should call it what it is: I’m in a slump.
It’s certainly a funk. Thankfully, my guests are struggling too.
I’m hitting far below the standard I strive for – .800.
I picked six of 10 correctly last week. Fortunately, my guest, Dale Bunch, had more difficulty at 4 for 10. So I extended my lead. The scoreboard reads: The Scribe 29-13 (.690), the Guests 25-17 (.595).
I have to get off the schneid. No better time than the present.
I head to the links for my guest this week as Prairie Falls head pro Tim Morton agreed to take on yours truly. Morton is the father of Coeur d’Alene High standout Ryan Morton.
Like his son, Tim was a golfer/basketball player in his prep days at Rogers in Spokane. But the old man couldn’t hold a stick to son. Tim’s in his fifth year sending golfers to the first tee at Prairie Falls.
Coeur d’Alene at Post Falls: I truly believe what the Trojans have accomplished so far is fantastic. I certainly wouldn’t have believed they’d be 4-0 at this point.
The Vikings are better than the 17-0 loss they suffered at the hands of Sandpoint two weeks ago.
Both teams have put up some offense. If CdA can avoid the troubles most of the Trojans’ opponents have had thus far – turnovers – the Viks should prevail. CdA 28, PF 21.
Guest: I think it’s going to be a battle between two good running teams. But since Post Falls offensive coordinator Jeff Hinz never shows up for his summer job at Prairie Falls, I’m going to pick Coeur d’Alene. CdA 28, PF 27.
Lake City at Lakeland: I can’t help but wince when imagining the outcome of this lopsided game waiting to happen. Especially after I witnessed Timberlake’s undressing of the Hawks last week.
The Hawks aren’t ready for 4A football. They’re outmanned and outgunned. They’re playing a team Friday that has a wealth of talent and depth. So if I could exhort the Hawks, it would be this: Don’t give up. Better days are ahead. LC 42, Lakeland 7.
Guest: Lake City likes to spread its offense around, and the Timberwolves have lots of speed. LC 42, Lakeland 14.
Lewiston at Sandpoint: In years past this would have been a good game. But the Bengals are stepping into a beehive at Sandpoint.
The Bulldogs will be able to do anything they want – run, pass and defend. It could be ugly. Sandpoint 35, Lewiston 6.
Guest: Sandpoint has too good of a running game. Sandpoint 35, Lewiston 20.
