The number of non-tribal casinos in Spokane County has nearly doubled in the last year, a boom brought about by a nationwide poker craze and, possibly, anticipation of a statewide initiative that ended up losing at the polls.

There now are nine such casinos in the county, with a 10th slated to open this summer. The owners of the businesses say they’re designed to appeal to different markets, but some wonder whether there’s room at the table for all.
