Marker will be placed for Cheney district
The Cheney Historic Preservation Commission will place a historical marker at the corner of First Street and College Avenue today at 5:15 p.m.
The marker is to honor the city’s downtown (Central Cheney) historic district, which was listed on the Washington Heritage and National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
Located between the Eastern Washington University campus and the former Northern Pacific railroad tracks, the district encompasses about 60 commercial, industrial, religious, educational, and residential buildings associated with the early development of Cheney.
The dedication will feature a reading of the plaque for the public.
Representatives from the Cheney Preservation Commission and Cheney Mayor Amy Jo Sooy plan to attend.
