Some CV schools no longer will allow choice requests

The Spokesman-Review

The Central Valley School District announced last week that it will not allow students to transfer by choice into six of the district’s schools because of high enrollment in those buildings.

Students not living within the attendance boundaries of Greenacres and Liberty Lake Elementary schools, Bowdish, Evergreen and Greenacres middle schools, and University High School will not be accepted for transfer into those schools, district officials said.

However, the other 16 schools in the district’s 80-square-mile boundaries are still accepting choice requests.

Traditionally students living inside or outside of the district’s boundaries can be considered for transfer to any Central Valley school by submitting a request in writing.

Parents, guardians or emancipated students interested in transferring to a Central Valley school should submit a written request to the principal of the school they wish to transfer to by the following deadlines:

Resident students – or those already living within the district’s boundaries – should submit a request by April 15. Nonresident students have until May 1.

Each school will conduct a lottery within five school days of each deadline to select students for available slots, district spokeswoman Melanie Rose said in a press release.

Letters of approval or denial will be mailed to each student following the lottery.
