Athletics 6, Devil Rays 1: Rich Harden allowed just one run in his first start of the season, and Erubiel Durazo hit a two-run single during a four-run sixth inning to lead Oakland past Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg, Fla. Harden (1-0) missed his scheduled start last Wednesday against Baltimore because of a blister on his right middle finger. He allowed five hits, two walks and had five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
Royals 8, Angels 3: Ruben Gotay went 4 for 5 with a homer and three RBIs, and Emil Brown also homered to lead Kansas City over Los Angeles in Anaheim, Calif.
Blue Jays 4, Red Sox 3: Orlando Hudson doubled home the winning run in the ninth to lead Toronto past visiting Boston. Eric Hinske went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Blue Jays, who took two of three from Boston.
Orioles 7, Yankees 2: Rodrigo Lopez (2-0) allowed just six hits and fanned eight in eight impressive innings as Baltimore beat New York at Yankee Stadium.
Indians 7, Tigers 6: Ben Broussard’s two-run double keyed a six-run first inning and visiting Cleveland held on to defeat Detroit.
Twins 5, White Sox 2: Johan Santana struck out 11 in seven innings and Torii Hunter keyed a big third inning with a three-run homer to help Minnesota avoid a three-game sweep with a victory over Chicago in Minneapolis.
National League
Marlins 8, Nationals 0: Josh Beckett (2-0) pitched a five-hitter, struck out 11 and retired 14 consecutive batters, and Juan Encarnacion hit his second grand slam of the week to help Florida rout Washington in Miami.
Astros 5, Reds 2: Jeff Bagwell hit a tiebreaking two-run homer and Roy Oswalt pitched seven strong innings to lead Houston past visiting Cincinnati for its fourth straight win.
Diamondbacks 5, Dodgers 4: Troy Glaus homered for the fourth straight game to tie a franchise record, and Shawn Green connected against his former team for the second day in a row to help Arizona edge Los Angeles in Phoenix.
Phillies 13, Cardinals 4: Pat Burrell hit a three-run homer to increase his major league-leading RBI total to 15 and Bobby Abreu had three hits and four RBIs, helping Jon Lieber (2-0) and Philadelphia beat host St. Louis.
Cubs 6, Brewers 5 (12): Todd Hollandsworth’s RBI single through a drawn-in infield with one out in the 12th inning lifted Chicago past visiting Milwaukee.
Pirates 6, Padres 3: Khalil Greene’s two-out throwing error in the fourth inning led to four unearned runs and Pittsburgh beat host San Diego.
Giants 11, Rockies 4: Jason Schmidt (2-0) singled twice in San Francisco’s seven-run fifth and gave up only two hits in six innings as the Giants roughed up visiting Colorado.
