Three people injured in Kellogg car crash

From staff reports

Three people, two of them children, were injured Saturday after their car crashed down a 40-foot embankment in Kellogg.

The 12-year-old girls were passengers in a car driven by Paul Mitchell Peterson of Kellogg, according to the Idaho State Police. At about 3:15 p.m., Peterson, 34, was heading east on I-90 when his 1991 Ford Escort veered off the roadway to the left at milepost 57.

The car broke through the guardrail on the westbound side of the road and fell down an embankment, according to an ISP press release. It struck several trees before coming to rest on the driver’s side in a small creek at the bottom.

The girls, Courtney Peterson and Jamie Dodge, were ejected from the car. Peterson was partially ejected and was extricated by medical units.

Paul Mitchell Peterson was listed in critical condition Saturday night at Kootenai Medical Center. Courtney Peterson was taken to KMC and transferred to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, where her condition was described as critical. Dodge was treated for her injuries at Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg and later was discharged.
