Man charged with third felony this month
A Spokane Valley man charged with burglary Saturday racked up his third felony this month.
Charles R. Kyle, 31, 10913 E. Cataldo Ave., also added a misdemeanor charge of car prowling to his list of alleged criminal offenses.
Kyle also was arrested on April 16 and April 20 in connection with burglaries at New Life Assembly of God Church, a residential burglary in the 1100 block of North Fox and Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
On Saturday, Kyle was charged with burglary again, Spokane Valley police spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan said.
Officers were called to a home in the 13500 block of East Fourth Avenue about 10:45 p.m. to a report of an intruder who had entered the home through a sliding glass door.
The residents told police the man rummaged through the home’s office, grabbed a laptop computer, then headed for the bedroom, Reagan said. He flipped on the bedroom lights and appeared surprised when he saw the residents. He asked if “Tony” lived there and then turned and ran.
The man dropped the laptop as he ran, Reagan said. The same man was reported as the suspect in a car break-in earlier on Saturday at another residence.
Kyle was being held at Spokane County jail on $6,000 bond for the felony and misdemeanor charges, a jail spokesman said.
Cat killed with arrow
A man’s beloved pet died Monday after an arrow pierced the cat’s body.
Spokane Valley officers searched the area for anyone who may have been practicing their archery, but didn’t find anyone, Reagan said.
The pet owner, who lives in the 14500 block of East Alki Ave., told police he let his cat out shortly before 9 a.m., Reagan said. It returned minutes later with a carbon composite shaft arrow with yellow feathers that had gone through one side of its body and out the other.
The cat’s owner took it to an emergency veterinarian clinic, but it couldn’t be saved, Reagan said.

Restaurant workers snub armed robber
A man gave up on an armed robbery at a Spokane Valley restaurant when employees failed to help him get into a cash register.
On April 19, the man armed with a black semi-automatic pistol entered Denny’s at East Sprague Avenue and North Pines Road about 4:30 a.m. and confronted an employee near the till, Spokane Valley police spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan said. The suspect told the employee to open the cash register, but the employee said he couldn’t because he was just a dishwasher.
The suspect then motioned for a waitress to come over and open the register, Reagan said. She told him she’d be there in a minute and went about her work.
The waitress told police the white man with “nasty-looking” hair was getting into a faded black Ford pickup truck when she went to the register. The man is described as in his 30s, 5 feet 9 inches tall and thin with straight long brown hair and no facial hair.
