Fire District 13 (Newman Lake) – The normal meeting was shortened because one commissioner was absent and another attended by phone. Vouchers for bills and payroll were approved and other business was postponed to a special meeting set for 5:30 p.m. May 12 at Station 1. (Source: Denise Kolva, secretary)

West Valley SCOPE – Members heard a presentation about the SNAP homeless outreach program and how to offer assistance to homeless in Spokane Valley. They also discussed plans for the annual parade and carnival set for June 4. (Source: June King, president)

East SCOPE – Members heard a presentation about the SNAP homeless outreach program. They also discussed plans for a garage sale in June, and the successful open house held last Saturday. Organizers were hoping at least 50 people would attend; instead volunteers gave away 189 bicycle helmets and handed out IOU’s for an additional 50 helmets. (Source: Marilyn Greer, secretary)

University SCOPE – Members discussed how to attract additional volunteers to staff programs that check businesses after hours and patrol the Centennial Trail during the summer. They also talked about the ongoing seminar program and a fund-raiser offering cookies and coffee at an I-90 rest stop scheduled for July. (Source: Sheryl Womble, co-president)
