Bargains on breakfast food

Marge Svenson King Features Syndicate

Variety is key to keeping the family coming to the breakfast table. There’s nothing wrong with cereal, toast and juice, but it can be a drag seven days in a row, 52 weeks a year.

With school starting soon in many parts of the country, a nutritious breakfast is more important than ever. Here are some ideas for making breakfast more enjoyable for everyone.

Blend It: Smoothies are a great way to start the morning, and contain key nutritional ingredients like fruit and yogurt.

Wrap It: Don’t forget the versatile flour tortilla for breakfast. If you make scrambled eggs and sausage or bacon, it’s a snap to sprinkle on some cheese and roll up a sandwich for breakfast on the go.

Freeze It: Consider making larger portions of items such as biscuits, waffles and pancakes and freezing the extra in serving-size portions. That way, everybody can have something a little different in the morning by just popping the frozen items into the toaster oven.

Set It: Make sure that you set breakfast dishes on the table the night before. It saves time in the morning, when everyone is in a rush.
