Hafner remains on disabled list
NOTES
Travis Hafner’s long-awaited return has been delayed – again.
The Cleveland designated hitter was expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday, but he hasn’t recovered enough from a concussion. He hasn’t played in the majors since getting drilled in the face with a pitch by Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox on July 16.
Hafner has experienced lightheadedness and headaches since he got hit.
During a rehab appearance on Monday for Double-A Akron, Hafner felt dizzy following his first at-bat and had to leave the game. He went 0 for 4 and was hit by a pitch Tuesday. As long as he’s not having symptoms, Cleveland would activate him today.
Initially, team doctors only thought Hafner would miss a few days. But his symptoms have lingered.
Chipper injured again
Atlanta third baseman Chipper Jones is day-to-day after leaving a game against Cincinnati with a right shoulder injury.
Jones, who spent six weeks on the disabled list with a foot injury earlier this season, has a rotator cuff strain. He got hurt while diving to his left in an attempt to stop Ryan Freel’s sharp grounder with two outs in the fourth inning.
Jones walked off gently holding the fingertips of his right hand after being examined on the field.
