Mariners make wrong move

The Spokesman-Review

It seems the Seattle Mariners make errors on so many trades they make.

Randy Winn was a real asset with a great attitude. He is already hitting well for the Giants. If San Francisco wanted Winn, a quality outfielder, the Mariners should have insisted that the Giants also take Scott Spiezio. Seattle had a perfect way to get rid of this .059 hitter and did not.

On Thursday in Detroit, Hargrove elected to go with Spiezio as the DH. He should have chosen Jamal Strong or a relief pitcher as DH rather than a .059 hitter. Maybe Hargrove was trying to “showcase” Spiezio for future Iraqi baseball.
