Collector cars on eBay

Greg Zyla King Features Syndicate

Q: I’m considering purchasing a collector muscle car on the eBay auction site. Is it safe? Have you ever bought a car on an Internet auction site? — Barry in Florida

A: Barry, the reason eBay is so successful is because it offers a great consumer-to-consumer buying experience. It also offers certain types of insurance and protection, and has buyer assistance for people like you. If you follow all of eBay’s instructions when purchasing a high-dollar product, you’ll be the very happy owner of a muscle car.

Most all of the transactions are legitimate, but eBay will be the first to tell you that a buyer can be duped if a deal looks too good to be true or the seller doesn’t have a good feedback rating. I highly recommend you read the eBay Motors Buyers Assurance Program that explains in detail how to make your purchase a good experience.

I haven’t purchased a complete car, but I have bought connecting rods, induction kits, performance computer chips and restoration parts for my 1972 Challenger, and a new 454 Chevy tall-deck engine block. All have been excellent experiences. Good luck.
