Tigers’ White injures shoulder

Associated Press

NOTES

Detroit Tigers left fielder Rondell White dislocated his left shoulder while diving for David DeJesus’ inside-the-park homer during the first game of a doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals.

Manager Alan Trammell indicated White would likely be going on the disabled list today.

“It doesn’t look good,” Trammell said. “It didn’t want to pop back in, so they took him to the hospital. It wasn’t good right away. He was in severe pain. He was saying, ‘I can’t believe my luck,’ as he left the field.

White stayed down in pain on the Kauffman Stadium grass as DeJesus circled the bases in the third inning. White missed the final six weeks of the 2000 season with a dislocated left shoulder.

Greene fractures toe

San Diego Padres shortstop Khalil Greene left Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies with a broken left big toe.

It appeared that Greene might have hurt himself while diving for Todd Pratt’s single to left field in the third inning. Television replays showed Greene wincing as he got up off the grass.

Giants’ Rueter DFA

The San Francisco Giants designated Kirk Rueter for assignment after activating him from the disabled list. The 34-year-old left-hander lost his spot in the rotation last month and is 2-7 with a 5.95 ERA in 20 games.

Rueter had been with the Giants since 1996, compiling a record of 105-80.
