Applications for city grants being accepted

The city of Spokane Community Development Department announced that public service funding applications are now available for the 2006 fiscal year (July 1, 2006, to June 30, 2007).

Up to $150,000 will be allocated among public service and human service agencies providing eligible benefits to those of low and moderate incomes within the city limits.

Examples of eligible activities include child care, health care, crime prevention, substance abuse counseling, job training, community center operation and activities, recreation programs and other services for youth, families and seniors.

To be eligible to receive funding, service providers must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or a public agency.

These funds come from federal community development block grants that the city receives annually through the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Applications may be obtained by contacting the community development department on the sixth floor of City Hall or by calling 625-6325.

Deadline for submitting applications is 4 p.m. Sept. 15. Faxed copies will not be accepted.
