Last race: Tony Stewart overcame a broken alternator late in the Sirius Satellite Radio at The Glen and recorded his fifth victory in seven races. Stewart now has a 105-point lead over Jimmie Johnson, who finished fifth.
Last year: Greg Biffle led a race-high 73 of 200 laps and easily won the GFS Marketplace 400.
Fast facts: Stewart and Biffle share the series lead with five wins apiece. Biffle has won the last two Michigan races, including the Batman Begins 400 on June 19. … Kyle Busch was fined $10,000 and placed on probation until the end of the year by NASCAR on Tuesday for hitting another competitor’s car after last week’s race. … Sterling Marlin missed last week’s race due to the death of his father, Coo Coo, earlier in the day. Scott Pruett drove the No. 40 car in his place and finished fourth.

Last year: Kyle Busch recorded his fifth victory of 2004 by taking the Cabela’s 250 at Michigan International Speedway. Busch had several leads of more than 5 seconds wiped out but still beat runner-up Mark Martin by 3.861 seconds.
Fast facts: Rookie Reed Sorenson remained third in the points but fell 219 points behind when his engine blew at the midway point of last week’s race, leading to a 41st-place finish. … No driver has won more than one pole through the first 12 Busch races at Michigan. … Greg Biffle has won at Michigan with both the Nextel Cup and Craftsman Truck series. He is winless in four Busch starts at the track, recording just one top-10 finish. … NASCAR fined Tony Stewart $5,000 and placed him on probation until the end of the year for hitting Brian Vickers’ car after last week’s Busch race.

Last race: Kimi Raikkonen finally avoided misfortune, using the pits to perfection and racing away from Michael Schumacher at the Hungarian Grand Prix on July 31 for his fourth victory of the season. Raikkonen stalled on the 36th lap the previous week at Germany and had engine problems while practicing for the two events prior to that.
Last year: Inaugural race.
Fast facts: The track was created by German architect Herman Tilke, who also designed the Sepang, Bahrain and Shanghai circuits. It is one of three tracks on the schedule to run counter-clockwise. … Ralf Schumacher finished third at Hungary for his first podium of the season. … The Renault team went scoreless at Hungary, but still leads the constructors standings 117-105 over McLaren.

Last year: Dario Franchitti shook off a potentially dangerous pit mishap and led the final 63 laps to win the Honda 225. On lap 85, Franchitti’s fuel man, Mike Miller, had trouble getting the hose disconnected from the car and was clipped by the rear tire.
Fast facts: Dan Wheldon finished third at Kentucky and extended his lead in the series standings to 90 points over second-place Sam Hornish Jr., who finished seventh. … Vitor Meira earned his fourth top-five finish of the season at Kentucky. … Danica Patrick started from the pole for the second time last week, but finished 16th, 16 laps behind the leaders.

Fast facts: Kalitta recorded his fifth win of the season last weekend and extended his lead in the Top Fuel standings to 70 points over Tony Schumacher. … Schumacher had the fastest run in drag racing history last Saturday, reaching 337.58 mph in qualifying. He needed to clock a speed of at least 334.21 on any run during the remainder of the weekend to certify the performance as an NHRA national record, but didn’t reach the mark.
