Week in review
Fire District 11 (Rockford) – Commissioners discussed moving some fire fighting equipment closer to several outlying landowners near the Idaho border who have been unable to get insurance because they are outside the five-mile radius surrounding each fire station. The town of Rockford will be getting a new Class A pumper truck rated for structure fires (similar to those found in the city of Spokane) with a $220,00 FEMA grant that will be available to the district through its mutual aid agreement. Fire District 8 – Commissioners heard a presentation on refinancing the district’s bonds. The chief reported that the city of Spokane is attempting to annex another chunk of the district’s coverage area on Hatch Road. The commissioners voted to put an issue on the November ballot to restore the regular property tax levy to $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed value. They also voted to declare several items of unused equipment as surplus. (Source: Deputy chief Dan Blystone)
Fire District 13 (Newman Lake) – Commissioners approved a new electrical safety policy that sets out procedures to be followed with downed electrical wires. They also discussed attending the Western Fire Chiefs Association Conference in October. (Source: Secretary Denise Kolva)
West Valley SCOPE – Members decided to donate the money raised at the carnival to purchase school supplies for needy children and a picnic table and benches for Millwood Park. Several volunteers will be helping provide security at the Spokane Interstate Fair. (Source: President June King)
