Division I-AA

Brian Wingert’s 22-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter gave Northern Iowa a 24-21 victory over New Hampshire in an NCAA I-AA quarterfinal game Saturday in Durham, N.H.

The Panthers (10-3) play Texas State in the semifinals.

Wingert, who kicked a game-winning field goal with 51 seconds left last week against Eastern Washington, hit his 22-yarder with 11:50 remaining. The kick was set up by a 21-yard pass from Eric Sanders to Justin Surrency.

New Hampshire, ranked No. 1 in the I-AA poll, outgained the Panthers 631 yards to 351 but lost three fumbles in the second half.

New Hampshire (11-2) fell behind 21-0 after 23 minutes but pulled even at the end of the third quarter as Ricky Santos threw touchdowns passes of 29, 8 and 20 to David Ball.

Texas State 14, Cal Poly 7: Douglas Sherman rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown and quarterback Barrick Nealy had 264 total yards and a score as the Bobcats (11-2) beat the Mustangs (9-4) at San Marcos, Texas.

Appalachian St. 38, S. Illinois 24: Richie Williams threw three touchdown passes and ran for a fourth score, leading the Mountaineers (10-3) past the Salukis (9-4) in a quarterfinal game in Boone, N.C.

Appalachian State will play Furman in the semifinals.

Furman 24, Richmond 20: Jerome Felton rushed for 92 yards and two TDs and Justin Stepp caught 11 passes for 143 yards to lead the Paladins (11-2) over the Spiders (9-4) in Richmond, Va.

NAIA

Tyler Emmert passed for 368 yards and five touchdowns and ran for another score to lead three-time defending champion Carroll College to a 55-0 victory over Sioux Falls (11-2) in a semifinal matchup at Helena.

Top-ranked Carroll (13-0) advances to the title game against second-ranked St. Francis of Indiana on Dec. 17. Carroll beat St. Francis 17-15 in last year’s title game on a field goal with 10 seconds remaining.

The Saints led 41-0 at halftime after scoring three touchdowns in the final 4:24 of the second quarter.

Emmert is the NAIA record-holder in career total offense. .

St. Francis, Ind. 42, Morningside 14: Adam Denning ran for 83 yards and three touchdowns and the Cougars (13-0) routed the Mustangs (12-1) in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Division II

Josh Lamberson threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Raphael Robinson with 23 seconds left to lift the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats (11-3) to a 25-24 victory over the North Alabama Lions (11-3) in a semifinal game in Florence, Ala.

The Bearcats advance to the title game against Grand Valley State, also in Florence.

North Alabama led 24-17 with just under seven minutes left before Vinnie Saylor was sacked in the end zone for a safety.

Grand Valley State 55, East Stroudsburg 20: Brandon Langston caught two touchdown passes and ran for another score in the first quarter and the top-ranked Lakers (12-0) rolled to a victory over the Warriors (11-3) in Allendale, Mich., and advanced to the title game for the fourth time in the last five years.

Grand Valley State won the national title in 2002 and 2003.

The Lakers led 34-0 at the end of the first quarter and 41-7 at halftime.

Division III

Justin Beaver’s 1-yard touchdown run with 42 seconds left gave Wisconsin-Whitewater a 44-41 victory over defending champion Linfield in a Division III quarterfinal game in McMinnville, Ore., snapping the Wildcats’ 23-game winning streak.

Beaver, the leading rusher in D-III, had 34 carries for 197 yards and three touchdowns for the Warhawks (13-0), who advance to play Wesley in the semifinals.

Brett Elliott threw for a school-record 528 yards and five TDs for Linfield (10-1).

Wesley 46, Bridgewater, Va. 7: Chris Warrick passed for 287 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for another to lead the Wolverines (12-1) past the Eagles (10-2) in a quarterfinals game in Dover, Del.

Mount Union 34, Capital 31: Mike Jorris passed for 315 yards and three TDs, including a 2-yard score to Anthony Antonucci with 3:41 to play, to lift the Purple Raiders (12-1) over the Crusaders (10-3) in a quarterfinal game in Alliance, Ohio.

Rowan 27, Delaware Valley 21: Joe Rankin threw four second-half touchdowns and Eric Bailey knocked down a fourth-down pass in the end zone with 39 seconds left to lift the Profs (11-1) over the Aggies (12-1) in a quarterfinal game in Doylestown, Pa.
