Skyline wins 4A title

Associated Press

TACOMA – Jason Harris capped his remarkable senior season, throwing for 281 yards and accounting for five touchdowns, and Skyline beat Woodinville 35-21 to win the State 4A title Saturday night.

Harris threw for three touchdowns and rushed for two as the Spartans capped an undefeated season and avenged their loss to Evergreen of Vancouver in last year’s state title game.

After throwing for 2,679 yards and 31 touchdowns coming into the championship game, Harris was nearly flawless, completing 19 of 24 passes and rushing for 66 yards. Skyline coach Steve Gervais added a 4A title to his 3A crown at Skyline in 2000 and his three 1A titles at Eatonville.

Quarterback Jordan Greek rushed for 92 yards, but Woodinville’s offense managed just 174 yards against Skyline’s stingy defense. Greek kept Woodinville’s dwindling hopes alive with an amazing individual effort early in the fourth quarter and the Falcons trailing by 14.

On third-and-7 at the Skyline 16, Greek threw a lateral pass to Zach Doblar, who looked to throw downfield. With everyone covered, he dumped the pass off to Greek, who caught it at the 24, cut across field and scored to pull Woodinville within 28-21 with 9:43 left.

Woodinville tried an onside kick that was recovered by Skyline. Harris then completed four straight passes, the last a 10-yard TD strike to Matthew O’Connell, to put the game out of reach.
