Get out, get going

The Spokesman-Review

A holiday tradition

Since the weather outside is a little frightful and the sledding hills are looking a lot like ice rinks, this weekend is the perfect time to look for some indoor activities. Students of The Company Ballet School will be putting on performances of “The Nutcracker” today at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at Trent Elementary, 3303 N. Pines Road.

The production is put on by the ballet school’s senior performing group called Corps De Ballet. Admission is $5.

Cookie time

A great place for kids to have fun and stay warm at the same time is the Spokane Valley Library on Tuesday. The library is hosting its monthly After-School Special program for children in grades K-5.

This month’s hourlong program begins at 4 p.m. Tuesday and will include making cookie creations and hearing a cookie-themed story. The library is at 12004 E. Main Ave. and the event is free.

Think spring

It’s a little early in the year to be thinking about spring sports, but it’s not too early to sign up for them. The Valley Youth Soccer League is now accepting registrations for spring soccer in May and April. The cost is $25 for ages 4-8 and $35 for kids age 9 and up.

To register, call 924-7661 or visit www.vysoccer.org. Games are played every Saturday during the season and the kids usually practice once or twice a week.

Guns galore

If you like a little buckshot in the morning, then the Spokane Gun Show at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center is for you. You can buy, sell or trade just about anything with a trigger. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $6. The event is sponsored by Lewis-Clark Trader.
