Thrashers get first triumph against Red Wings
Patrik Stefan scored twice, including the go-ahead goal with less than 5 minutes left in the third period, as the Thrashers blew a four-goal lead before recovering for a 7-6 win over Detroit in Atlanta on Tuesday night.
The Thrashers led 6-2 after two periods, but still needed a late goal to beat the Red Wings for the first time in franchise history.
Pavel Datsyuk scored two goals for the Red Wings, who had a three-game winning streak end and had been unbeaten in seven games all-time against Atlanta.
Canucks 3, Rangers 2: At New York, Matt Cooke knocked in a rebound with 4:31 left, snapping a tie in his first game since missing 17 with a broken jaw and lifting Vancouver to a victory over New York.
Todd Bertuzzi and Daniel Sedin also scored for the Canucks, who won their third consecutive game.
Devils 2, Oilers 1 (SO): At East Rutherford, N.J., Viktor Kozlov and Brian Gionta scored in a shootout and Martin Brodeur stopped Jarret Stoll and Ales Hemsky in the tiebreaker to give New Jersey a victory over Edmonton.
Wild 4, Islanders 3: At Uniondale, N.Y., Marc Chouinard’s power-play goal in the final seconds of the second period gave Minnesota a victory over New York.
Flyers 3, Blue Jackets 1: At Columbus, Ohio, rookie Jeff Carter scored the go-ahead goal early in the second period and Philadelphia killed a long two-man power play in the second period in its victory over Columbus.
Canadiens 5, Coyotes 2: At Montreal, Andrei Kostsitsyn scored his first NHL goal and Michael Ryder scored his team-high 13th, leading Montreal to a victory over Phoenix.
Panthers 7, Predators 3: At Sunrise, Fla., Nathan Horton had his first career three-goal game to help Florida snap a four-game losing streak with a victory over Nashville.
Hurricanes 5, Blackhawks 3: At Raleigh, N.C., Aaron Ward was awarded the tying goal after a video review early in the second period and Matt Cullen put Carolina ahead about a minute later, helping the Hurricanes beat Chicago.
Blues 3, Penguins 0: At St. Louis, Keith Tkachuk and Jamal Mayers each scored their eighth goals of the season and goalie Curtis Sanford made 21 saves as St. Louis shut out Pittsburgh.
Islanders’ Blake injured
Islanders forward Jason Blake had complete feeling in all of his extremities and didn’t sustain any serious back or neck injuries when he crashed headfirst into the boards in New York’s loss to Minnesota.
Blake was still undergoing tests a few hours after the game and was expected to be hospitalized overnight as a precautionary measure.
Blake left the ice on a stretcher.
Off the ice
Vancouver goalie Dan Cloutier will miss at least the rest of the regular season because of a knee injury that will require surgery. Cloutier partially tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in a Nov. 20 game. … Columbus forward Sergei Fedorov will not play for Russia in the Turin Olympics. Fedorov, a six-time NHL All-Star who turned 36 on Tuesday, said he needed the time to recuperate from a nagging injury and to adapt to his new team.
