Before Scott and Stephanie Naccarato left their suburban home near Brentwood School and built a new home on 24 acres north of Spokane two years ago, the couple spent eight months sketching and planning, tweaking the final design.

The result is a rancher which overlooks Peone Prairie and incorporates the lodge look Scott wanted with the French Country feel that appealed to Stephanie.

Stephanie personally created many of the accents in the home, including the hand-painted lettering on the walls and other decorative items. She made the clay-faced Santa which greets visitors with a sign asking “What’s on your wish list?”

“It’s a beautiful space,” she said of the separate studio her husband just completed. “I can’t wait to get busy.” She is a decorative painter by trade.

In the spring, the couple plan to tackle the job of landscaping the property. “Finally, it’s time to do the outdoors,” Stephanie Naccarato said. They plan to add trees to the open terrain.

The three Naccarato children, 14, 12 and 4 years old are learning to adjust to life outside of a neighborhood. But there are compensations.

“The view is incredible and we see amazing wildlife,” Stephanie Naccarato said. “Plus they’ve got an awesome sledding hill and a dirt-bike track.”
