“ April 10, 1942 – $58 million constructon contract is awarded to Walter Butler Co. of St. Paul, Minn.

“ May 30, 1942 – President Franklin Roosevelt names station in honor of Adm. David Glasgow Farragut, the first admiral in the Navy.

“ June 1, 1942 – By this date, 7,000 workers are on site constructing buildings.

“ Aug. 2, 1942 – First camp at Farragut Naval Training Station is dedicated and turned over to the Navy.

“ Fall 1942 – President Roosevelt inspects the seven camps built on the Farragut site.

“ Summer 1946 – Camp is decommissioned.
