Kolva resigns from Fire District 13

The Spokesman-Review

Bob Kolva’s resignation as fire chief for Spokane County Fire District No. 13 is the most recent change with the district that protects the Newman Lake area.

Both Kolva and the commissioners cited “administrative differences” as the reason for his departure, but would not elaborate.

“We’re just looking for something different for our department,” said Eileen Weyrauch, a fire commissioner for the district.

Kolva was fire chief with Newman Lake Fire/Rescue for 51/2 years. He has been a volunteer firefighter there since 1991. He said he plans to continue with the fire district as a volunteer.

In late September, Fire Commissioner Ron Cunningham resigned. Clayton Andersen, a former commissioner, was appointed to fill out Cunningham’s term, which was due to expire this month.

Andersen was then elected to a six-year term as a fire commissioner during November’s general election.

Denise Kolva, the district secretary and Bob Kolva’s wife, left to take another job in late October.
