YOUR BEAUTIFUL HOME

Kathleen Peterson doesn’t confine her Christmas decorating to just a Christmas tree. Peterson spreads the holiday cheer throughout her home in the Downriver neighborhood.

Peterson, who is an interior designer, uses her collection of ornaments to accent the dried flower wreath that hangs over the mantle of the fireplace in her living room. This year angels, attached to the wreath, hang over the nativity scene which is arranged on the mantel.

Peterson seldom purchases new decorations and instead looks for creative ways to feature items she already has around the house.

This year, wanting to add a little “punch” to the interior of a large hutch, finished with a distressed yellow finish, that sits in her living room, Peterson attached a remnant of cheery plaid material to the interior.

“When I put the fabric on the inside the blue and white china came alive,” Peterson said. “And it will be easy to remove after the holidays.”

Peterson accented the arrangement of dishes with poinsettia blooms and sprigs of holly and other greenery. She added more to the top of the cabinet.

“Each year I try to find new ways to use what I already have,” Peterson said. “And that way each Christmas everything is new.”
