Lakeland improves to 11-2

Kayla Steigemeier had 21 points and five steals to lead Lakeland to a 50-42 victory over Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) in a non-league girls basketball game Thursday at Rathdrum.

Brigitte Boucher added eight points, seven rebounds and three assists, and Natalie Nichols had six points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals for the Hawks (11-2), who outscored the Eagles 29-18 in the second half.

Kia Gibson scored 14 points and Kelsey Stillar added 10 to lead Lakeside (2-3).

In other North Idaho non-league action, Becky Lowther scored 16 points and Camille Robertson added 11 points and eight rebounds as Bonners Ferry defeated visiting Clark Fork 53-29. Katie Poston had five points, nine rebounds and six steals for the Badgers (7-4), who opened up a 34-14 halftime lead. Rayna Allen led the Wampus Cats (1-6) with nine points.

Laura Gibson scored 22 points on 8-of-19 shooting to lead Deer Park to a 58-33 victory over host Northwest Christian in the Keith Dyk Christmas Tournament championship game at Colbert. Rachel McNeil added 13 points for the Stags (5-1), who outscored the Crusaders 34-15 in the second half. Krystal Pitkonen scored eight points to lead NWC (2-5), and Hannah Winters had seven points and 10 rebounds. … In the third-place game, Chantel Ford had 11 points, six assists and six steals as Wellpinit defeated Oroville 66-37. The Redskins tacked onto a 12-point halftime lead with a 21-2 third quarter. Jamie Covington also scored 11 for Wellpinit (6-2), and Jessica Kieffer had nine points and nine rebounds.

Chelsea Mykines scored 18 points and hit four 3-pointers, and Nikki Nelson added 14 points and seven steals as Mead routed Bellevue 60-35 in the Roosevelt Shootout at Seattle. Kelli Valentine added six steals for the Panthers (5-2), who had 21 for the game.

Boys basketball

Joel Noland scored 17 points to lead Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) (3-2) to a 58-42 victory over Lakeland in a non-league game at Rathdrum. Phillip Viebrock had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Hawks (4-5). … Matt Rice had 14 points and five rebounds, and Richard Robinson added 10 points, five rebounds and four blocks as Bonners Ferry (4-4) defeated visiting Clark Fork 58-41. Tyler Broggi and Brian Young scored 14 apiece to lead the Wampus Cats (2-5), who couldn’t rally from a 15-point halftime deficit.

Derek Iranon scored 15 points and Joe Grewe added 12 as Northwest Christian (6-1) defeated visiting Deer Park 58-41 to win the Keith Dyk Christmas Tournament in Colbert. Richie Mullenberg led the Stags (3-2) with 10 points. … In the third-place game, Jake Rowton hit two free throws with 1.7 seconds left in overtime to give Oroville a 64-62 victory over Wellpinit. Rowton finished with 27 points. T.J. Flett finished with 22 and Chazz Flett added 18 to lead the Redskins (4-4).

Zach Gianukakis scored 40 points on 16-of-29 shooting to lead Republic to a 72-55 victory over host Tonasket in a Washington non-league game. Todd Orestad added 15 points and Derek Gianukakis had 10 points and 17 rebounds for the Tigers (6-1). … Dayton used a 15-3 third-quarter run to propel the Bulldogs to a 42-39 victory over host Rosalia. Kris Widman scored 16 points to lead the Spartans (2-4), but he missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.
