Mead defense shuts down Wolverines

Chelsea Mykines scored 18 points and hit four 3-pointers, and Nikki Nelson added 14 points and seven steals as Mead routed Bellevue 60-35 Thursday in the Roosevelt Shootout at Seattle.

Kelli Valentine added six steals for the Panthers (5-2), who had 21 for the game. Cody Brazen led the Wolverines with 15 points.

In other non-league action, Natalie Barker had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Dayton went on a 26-4 first-half run en route to a 51-25 victory over host Rosalia. Clarissa Harston had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Spartans (2-4), who shot just 20 percent from the floor. … Tonasket outscored visiting Republic 21-10 in the second half to seize a 39-31 victory. Karissa Lehn had 10 points and 14 rebounds for Republic (1-4).

Laura Gibson scored 22 points on 8-of-19 shooting to lead Deer Park to a 58-33 victory over host Northwest Christian in the Keith Dyk Christmas Tournament championship game at Colbert. Rachel McNeil added 13 points for the Stags (5-1), who outscored the Crusaders 34-15 in the second half. Krystal Pitkonen scored eight points to lead NWC (2-5), and Hannah Winters had seven points and 10 rebounds. … In the third-place game, Chantel Ford had 11 points, six assists and six steals as Wellpinit defeated Oroville 66-37. Jamie Covington also scored 11 for Wellpinit (6-2), and Jessica Kieffer had nine points and nine rebounds.

Kayla Steigemeier had 21 points and five steals to lead Lakeland to a 50-42 victory over Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) in a non-league girls basketball game Thursday at Rathdrum. Natalie Nichols had six points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals for the Hawks (11-2), who outscored the Eagles 29-18 in the second half. Kia Gibson scored 14 points and Kelsey Stillar added 10 to lead Lakeside (2-3).
