CdA man charged with resisting arrest and possession of drugs

The Spokesman-Review

A cocaine container and unruly behavior led to a Coeur d’Alene man’s arrest last week in Spokane Valley.

During a traffic stop, the 18-year-old threw a cork-stopped glass tube into the road, then when officers tried to handcuff him he fought, Spokane Valley police spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan said.

Traffic was stopped, and police were able to retrieve the thrown container for evidence, Reagan said. Police also found drug paraphernalia and marijuana on the man.

Michael Eric Mickelson was charged with possession of cocaine, tampering with evidence, possession of marijuana, obstructing a public servant and resisting arrest, Reagan said.

Mickelson was the passenger in a car that an officer observed making several unsignalled lane changes, Reagan said. The officer stopped the car at Sprague and Argonne, Reagan said. The driver, Kevin J. Hawkins, had a suspended license. He was cited and released for third-degree driving while suspended.

Raid yields three arrests

Three Spokane Valley residents were arrested last Thursday after detectives raided a home and found evidence of drug use, identity theft, check counterfeiting and fraud.

Kelly L. Fulton, 44, Gina Marie Johnston, 36, and Tonalia A. Bohnas, 23, were found inside the residence at 1321 N. Felts Road, Spokane Valley police spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan said. Fulton was charged with forgery, Johnston was arrested on two warrants, residential burglary and possession of stolen property, and Bohnas was charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Police seized meth, prescription drugs, counterfeit checks, other people’s identification, a computer and blank check stock, Reagan said.

Thursday’s raid wasn’t the first time police have been at the residence, Reagan said. Several stolen vehicles have been recovered from the home, and officers have arrested several drug suspects and fugitives with warrants as they’ve come and gone from the home.

“The home there has been a thorn in the side of Spokane Valley Police and neighbors for several months,” Reagan said. “Coincidentally, a sheriff’s civil division deputy arrived during the execution of the search warrant and posted an eviction notice on the front door. The home’s owner said the residence would be emptied of the suspects’ belongings by the end of the week.”

Robbers use pliers, hammer

Two men armed with a pair of needle-nose pliers and claw hammer robbed a man last week in the Edgecliff area.

The victim was walking near Fourth and Coleman about 9:45 p.m. Dec. 15, Spokane Valley police spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan said.

The men threatened the victim with the tools and took his backpack, a CD player and some groceries, Reagan said. The men then ordered the victim to walk to south and not look back.

The first man was described as 6 feet tall and 190 pounds. The second man was about 5-foot-6 and 160 pounds with short brown hair, Reagan said. Both suspects were in their 20s.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery should call 242-8477.

Scammers claim to help officers

Someone claiming to represent the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office has recently called area residents and asked for donations to buy equipment for deputies and Spokane Valley Police officers.

Neither agency solicits donations by telephone, spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan said. Anyone who receives such a call should simply hang up.
