CV holds off T-Wolves rally

Luke Clift had 17 points and seven rebounds as visiting Central Valley hung on to an 11-point halftime lead and held off a late Lake City rally to win 49-44 in a non-league boys basketball game Friday night.

Matt Morgan scored 15 points and hit three 3-pointers to guide the Bears (6-1), who led 24-13 at the half. Jarom Taylor scored 11 to lead the Timberwolves (4-6), who cut the deficit to two points with 20 seconds left before CV hit free throws down the stretch for the final margin.

Ty Stoddard added 10 points, and Brad Bemis had seven points and seven assists for Lake City.

In other non-league action, Cody Smith scored 15 points as Coeur d’Alene defeated visiting Kellogg 72-51. John Latorre added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Vikings (4-4), who led 46-26 at halftime. Joshua McDonald scored 13 to lead the Wildcats (7-2), who had a seven-game win streak snapped. … Mark Sherwood scored 19 points on 4-of-9 shooting as Shadle Park defeated host Riverside 85-56. Zack Humphrey added 15 points and hit three 3-pointers for the Highlanders (4-3), who outscored the Rams 51-31 in the second half. Adam Anderson scored 14 points, and Jason Paul and Kyle Crance each pulled down eight rebounds to lead Riverside (3-2). … Brandon Holibaugh scored 14 points and Jason Azzarito added 11 as Kettle Falls (8-2) cruised to a 58-39 victory over host Colville. Tyson Luu scored 12 to lead the Indians (1-6), who trailed 49-26 entering the final quarter. … Derek Gianukakis scored 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting and pulled down 17 rebounds as Republic trounced host Oroville 83-40. Zach Gianukakis added 19 points, and Todd Orestad had 10 points and eight assists for the Tigers (7-1), who had five players in double figures. Zac Kimman led the Hornets with nine points.

Nick Smith and Brandon Semken each scored 16 points to lead Tumwater to a 45-42 overtime victory over Mt. Spokane in the Seattle Christian Christmas Tournament championship game. Smith hit four 3-pointers for Tumwater, while Matt Dorr hit three and scored 21 points for Mt. Spokane (5-2).

Andrew Quint scored 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting as visiting Genesee defeated Rosalia 58-23 to win the Spartan Christmas Classic. Warren Booth and Ray Stout each added 13 for the Bulldogs, who outscored the Spartans 28-4 in the second half. Kris Widman led Rosalia (3-5) with 11 points. … In the consolation game, Jared Beraducci scored 19 points to lead the Colfax JV to a 66-43 victory over St. Maries. The Bulldogs broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Lumberjacks 25-8. Zech Szalasi scored seven points for St. Maries (1-8), which has lost eight straight.

Brian Danaher had 18 points and eight rebounds to lead 1A Colfax to a 50-41 victory over 3A Wapato in the SunDome Classic at Yakima. Adam Bruya pulled down 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs (6-1), while Lavell Harris led the Wolves with 13 points. … Jesse Garner scored 15 of his 21 points in the first quarter as Chewelah cruised to a 77-38 victory over White Swan. Cameron Stroyan added 16 points, Casey Christian 11 and Clayton Becker 10 as Chewelah (1-6) rolled to a 41-18 halftime lead. Adrian Komaromy and Travis VanPelt led White Swan with eight apiece. … Anthony Andrews‘ 18 points led three Grandview players in double figures in a 54-43 victory over Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls). Travis Corigliano scored 11 points and Jason Reeder 10 to lead the Eagles (3-4). … Ben Hein scored 14 points and George Turner had seven points and 12 rebounds as Pullman rallied to defeat Hanford 53-46. J.T. Levenseller put the Greyhounds (5-1) ahead with a 3-pointer with 2 1/2 minutes left, and Ashton Gant shot 4 of 5 from the free-throw line over the final 2 minutes to seal the win. Tommy Begalka scored 14 points and Alex Moore added 11 for the Falcons, who suffered their first loss.

Girls basketball

Mallory Lehman scored 17 points and Darbie Shelden added 11 as St. Maries won the Spartan Christmas Classic in Rosalia with a 47-42 victory over Genesee. Megan Skow had 10 points and eight rebounds, and Lisa Davis had 10 points and four steals for the Bulldogs. The Lumberjacks (7-3) made their run in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 14-7. … In the consolation game, Liz Gelhaus had 17 points and five rebounds, and Rosalia held Clark Fork scoreless in the third quarter en route to a 42-34 victory. Ashley Widman added seven points and six assists for the Spartans (3-5), who forced 10 Wampus Cats turnovers in the third quarter. Tiffany Van Buren scored 12 points for Clark Fork (1-8) in its sixth straight loss. The Wampus Cats shot 0 for 6 from the field and 0 for 2 from the line in the third quarter.

Charlee Jackson had 10 points and 15 rebounds as Mt. Spokane won its second straight Seattle Christian Christmas Tournament with a 50-45 victory over Kennedy. Tiara Pittman scored 12 points to lead the Wildcats (3-4), and Sam Patrick added eight points and nine rebounds. Both players earned all-tournament honors.

Brooke Schanzenbach scored 13 points as Chewelah turned a close game at halftime into a 53-35 victory over Grandview in the SunDome Classic at Yakima. Jochelle Schatz added 11 points for the Cougars (5-2), who outscored the Greyhounds 33-16 in the second half. Kinzi Poteet scored a game-high 14 for Grandview. … Meagan Teade had 12 points and six rebounds to lead Colfax (7-2) to a 59-34 victory over Wapato for its second victory over a 3A school in as many days. Ariana Allen scored 11 points to lead the Wolves. … Depeel Nikki had 16 points and six rebounds as Hanford defeated Pullman 38-35. Kayla Ayers added 13 points for the Falcons, who jumped out to a 13-3 lead after the first quarter. Jamie Thornton had 11 points and eight rebounds to lead the Greyhounds (4-3).
