Get out, get going

The Spokesman-Review

Goodbye, 2005

Happy New Year! Okay, so we’re premature by a few hours, but today is the farewell to 2005. There are a few big New Year’s Eve parties, mostly in downtown Spokane, but there is a celebration happening out in our neck of the woods if you don’t want to drive far.

The Country Jammers will perform at a New Year’s Eve party and dance tonight beginning at 8. There’s no admission charge. Those attending are asked to bring a snack to share. The event will be at the Tri-Community Grange, one block north of Trent on Starr Road.

Hello, 2006

The Elks Lodge at 2605 N. Robie Road is planning to welcome 2006 with a few pancakes and a little coffee – maybe a lot of coffee, depending on how your New Year’s Eve celebration went. The cost is $5, and breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Bow to your partner

Sashay on over to the Western Dance Center at 1901 N. Sullivan Road on Monday if you want to learn how to square dance. No experience is necessary, and it’s a great way to keep that New Year’s resolution to get into shape. The classes are held at 7:15 p.m. each Monday for about six months. The cost is $3.50 per class. Call 328-5175 for more information.

Banish clutter

Maybe your New Year’s resolution isn’t to get your body in shape but to get your house in shape. You know what we mean. There’s the laundry that’s been piled in the corner so long you don’t remember if it’s clean or dirty, the desk mounded with papers, the closets bursting at the seams. A free class on clutter control will begin Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Amazing Nu Spaces, 12412 E. Sprague Ave. Call 928-2629 for more information.
