Annexation topic of hearing

The Spokesman-Review

The Spokane City Council will hold its second hearing Monday on a proposed annexation of about 40 parcels of land in southeast Spokane.

The hearing will be at the end of the council’s regularly scheduled legislative session at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

Council members will consider applying the city’s comprehensive land use plan as well as single-family residential zoning to the annexation.

Included in the annexation are the Muirfield and Muirfield First additions along Custer Street between 37th and 42nd avenues. The 25.3 acres of land is to the south of Chase Middle School.

The Washington State Boundary Review Board approved the annexation proposal in December. The city is negotiating with Fire District 8 and the Spokane County Library District to temporarily offset property tax losses to those agencies.

Council members are being asked to approve an emergency ordinance enacting the annexation in order to meet a March 1 deadline for acquiring property taxes from the area as early as 2006, city officials said Monday.
