Lakeside knocks off Chewelah
Lakeside drew even with Chewelah in the loss column atop the Great Northern League girls basketball race, knocking off the Cougars 67-60 in a showdown at Nine Mile Falls on Friday night.
The Eagles, who entered the week the No. 6-ranked 2A team, were upset Tuesday by Deer Park 65-64.
Tiffany Corigliano posted a game-high 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Lakeside, with Kelsey Stillar adding 15 points, eight rebounds and six steals while Kia Gibson posted 16 points.
Nikki Nelson scored 17 points for the Cougars, who trailed 53-37 entering the fourth quarter.
Chewelah is 14-3, 7-2. Lakeside is 13-3, 6-2.
Deer Park 50, Colville 38: The Stags came back strong after their upset win over Lakeside at Colville. Laura Gibson scored 17 points and Kaytee Clough added 16 to lead Deer Park (12-4, 5-3), which held its opponent to just 3-of-10 shooting in the fourth quarter. Raylynn Martin’s 12 points paced Colville (1-16, 0-9). … Pullman 71, Medical Lake 48: Jamie Thornton led four Greyhounds (9-6, 4-3) into double figures with 18 points on her home court – scoring 14 in the second half. Miranda Spilker scored 14 points to lead the Cardinals (5-11, 1-7).

Scotties clinch title at home
Freeman, the No. 1-ranked Class 1A team in the latest Associated Press poll, romped past defending state champion Colfax in a Northeast A League showdown at Freeman, 70-56.
The Scotties (16-2, 5-0) clinched the league championship and swept Colfax for the first time. Jessie DePell had 14 points and 15 rebounds to lead Freeman, which got 18 points from Ashlee Taylor and another 10 points off the bench from Jennesa Miller. Colfax (12-7, 3-2) got a game-high 21 points from Jordan Harazin.
Kettle Falls 50, Newport 40: The Grizzlies built a 4-0 lead in the first minute, then were held scoreless the remainder of the first quarter. Tasia Tracy scored 13 points and Liz Beardslee added 10 to lead the Bulldogs (11-8, 2-3). Megan Stanley scored 14 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to lead the Grizzlies (9-10, 0-5).
Bi-County League
ACH claims league lead
Almira/Coulee-Hartline took over sole possession of first place in the Bi-County League by scoring a 54-52 upset of visiting Sprague-Harrington.
ACH’s Andrea Edwards earned her only two points by sinking a pair of free throws with 38 seconds left to tie the game at 52, and teammate Kami Clark drove the length of the court for the winning layup with 8 seconds left. The Warriors (16-2, 15-1) were ranked No. 9, one slot behind the Falcons (15-3, 14-2).
Liberty 58, Davenport 46: Jessica Hahner had 26 points, shooting 8 of 18 from the floor and 8 of 8 from the line, while collecting eight steals and four assists, to lead the Lancers (11-7, 11-5), who got 11 points and 10 rebounds from point guard Shawn Hennessey. Stephanie Morrison scored 15 points to lead the Gorillas (9-9, 8-8). … Lind-Ritzville 37, Wilbur-Creston 29: The Broncos (10-8, 10-6) earned the win at Lind by going on a 16-8 run in the fourth quarter. Jenna Kragt scored six of her team-high 12 points in the fourth quarter. Kaitlyn Reidt paced the Wildcats (6-12, 6-10) with 12.
Northwest Christian 54, Reardan 49: Krystal Pitkonen drilled a 3-point field goal with 1:30 left to put the Crusaders ahead for good. NWC (8-10, 7-9) sank 15 of 25 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Jen Christerson scored 24 points to lead Reardan (3-15, 2-14). … Odessa 63, Valley Christian 59 (OT): The Tigers (4-14, 4-12) closed in on a playoff berth by turning away the Panthers in overtime. Jennie Harp buried a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Lauren Fink scored five of her 19 points in the extra period. Emily Oliver scored 19 for the Panthers (4-14, 3-13), who outshot Odessa, hitting 23 of 45 shots but lost the rebounding battle, 32-23.

Hornets sting No. 5 Curlew
Inchelium survived a furious fourth quarter to upset Curlew, the No. 5-ranked team in the state, 63-57, and forced a tie atop the league’s North Division with one game to play.
The Hornets (15-4, 12-2) got 24 points from Chelsi Pakootas and 14 rebounds from Melissa Dick. Whitney Flett sparked the fourth-quarter surge by scoring all her eight points in the final 8 minutes. The Cougars (17-2, 12-2) got 14 from Brittany Strandberg.
Selkirk 57, St. Michael’s 37: The Rangers set up a showdown with St. George’s to decide second place in the South Division tonight on the Rangers’ court. Holly Newman had 20 points and Chelsi Shaw added 17 to led the Rangers. Patty Urann led the Warriors (2-15, 1-12) with 10 points. … St. George’s 43, Springdale 30: Kerry Blake came off the Dragons’ bench to scored 10 points, shooting 3 of 4 from the field on her home court. Ashley Herling scored nine points, grabbed five rebounds and dished off three assists for St. George’s (8-11, 7-6) before aggravating a sprained left ankle in the third quarter. The Chargers (6-14, 4-10) missed their only field goal of the first quarter and fell behind 11-4 after 8 minutes. … Northport 39, Columbia 34: Down by two going into the final 8 minutes, the Mustangs (3-15, 1-13) went on a 15-8 run, powered by a half-dozen turnovers, to turn away the visiting Lions (3-15, 2-12). Kaprina Goodwin put up 25 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead Northport. … Republic 55, Wellpinit 42: The Tigers’ defense held Wellpinit to a dozen points in the first half while Randi Koontz scored 11 of her game-high 16 points and Dani Gubler scored 10 of her 13 points before intermission. Koontz drilled 4 of 5 shots from 3-point range and Randi Beck added six rebounds and five blocks for Republic (10-8, 8-6). Samantha Flett scored 15 points to lead Wellpinit (11-8, 8-6). The teams are tied for third place in the North Division, but the Tigers can clinch the No. 3 playoff seed with a win over Columbia tonight.

Nighthawks upset Gar-Pal – again
Tekoa-Oakesdale knocked off Garfield-Palouse, the state’s No. 1-ranked team, for the second time this season, this time 71-50 at Palouse. The Nighthawks (13-6, 8-3) roared in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Vikings 26-9 to put the game away.
Casey Smith and Darcie Chappell were a combined 11 of 21 from beyond the 3-point line to spark Tekoa-Oakesdale, each posting 24 points. Gar-Pal (17-2, 9-2) maintained its hold on first-place with one game to play and got a 23-point effort from Monica Boone. … LaCrosse-Washtucna 56, Colton 35: The Tigercats (14-4, 7-3) got 22 points from Jennifer Ayers-Stamper to score the victory at Colton. The Wildcats (6-13, 3-8) got 13 points from Casey Riedner. … St. John-Endicott 63, Rosalia 43: The Eagles (13-6, 8-3) maintained a second-place tie with Tekoa-Oakesdale behind Ellen Miller, who scored 17 points, and Jessie Mansell, who added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Rosalia (3-16, 0-11) got 14 rebounds from Clarissa Harston.

Lake Roosevelt pressed to win
Lake Roosevelt scored a 53-36 Caribou Trail League victory at Tonasket, using a smothering press to gain a 29-12 halftime lead. The Raiders collected 16 steals and forced Tonasket into 34 turnovers. Rhonda and Rowena St. Pierre scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, to lead Lake Roosevelt.
