Sandpoint knocks off Moscow

Sandpoint went to the boards to turn away Moscow.

The Bulldogs scored a 60-42 victory at Sandpoint in a 4A Region I girls basketball playoff game, moving a win away from a berth in the state tournament.

Sandpoint pulled down 44 rebounds en route to the victory, 20 more than the visiting Bears.

Sandpoint (14-7) plays the District III third-place team Saturday at Craigmont, with the winner earning a ticket into the state tournament.

Elle Carne scored 20 points to lead the Bulldogs, with Kendal Burt adding another 12.

Alisa Hart scored a dozen points to pace Moscow (9-14).

St. Maries 60, Timberlake 48:

The Lumberjacks (8-12) eliminated Timberlake (4-16) and advanced to the double-elimination portion of the 3A District 1 tournament with the win at North Idaho College. St. Maries plays Intermountain League champion Priest River tonight. Rachelle Solom scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds and collected eight steals to lead St. Maries. Lynsie Powers poured in 30 points, hitting 12 of 21 from the floor, including 6 of 9 from 3-point range, to lead Timberlake.

Post Falls wins from long range

Post Falls (13-6) poured in 11 3-point field goals to score a 67-24 non-league boys basketball victory at Timberlake (5-12). Scott Stockwell connected on five 3-pointers and amassed 21 points to lead the Trojans, who built a 31-9 lead at intermission.

St. Maries stops Priest River

St. Maries assured itself of a second-place finish behind Bonners Ferry in the Intermountain League by scoring a 41-30 victory over visiting Priest River. Dusty Brede, the sixth-place finisher at last year’s state tournament, needed just 43 seconds to pin Mike Thompson as the Lumberjacks won six of the final seven matches of the night. At 171 pounds, state veteran Kyle Joiner fell behind, 4-2, in the first minute to Priest River’s Mike Ramsey, then rallied for a pin at 1:09 of the first period. St. Maries ran its record to 16-7 in dual meets, 3-1 in league. … Lewiston 51, Lake City 18: The Bengals’ Mark Skogrand, the top-ranked 5A heavyweight in Idaho, scored a 3-0 decision over Don Sohler in a battle of state veterans. At 152, Lewiston’s Joe Blewett needed two overtimes to score a 13-12 victory over Titus Turner. The match was tied, 12-12, after regulation and remained tied after one one-minute overtime period. Blewett scored an escape with eight seconds left in the second OT to win. Lake City’s Aaron Stephens, ranked No. 3 in the state, scored a 7-3 decision over Matt Palmer in the 125 match.
