Miners can’t escape deep hole while losing in State 1A quarterfinals

Wallace fell behind early and was never able to challenge Lapwai in the State 1A girls basketball quarterfinals, falling 66-47 at Nampa in Thursday’s second round.

Althea Walker scored 21 points to lead Lapwai, connecting on 5 of 6 on 3-pointers and adding 10 rebounds.

Krista Williams scored 14 points and Torrie Heinig added 10 to lead Wallace (20-4).

Wallace plays Cambridge in a loser-out game today.

Richfield 60, Kootenai 29: The Warriors’ season came to an end at Nampa as Richfield hit 13 of 26 3-pointers, led by Cassie Wood’s 4-for-8 effort. Kootenai shot 14 for 38 from the field and committed 33 turnovers. Hannah Nyrop connected on 5 of 7 from the field to lead Kootenai (11-14) with 10 points.

Lakeside goes unbeaten in NSL

Lakeside wrapped up an undefeated North Star League season by rolling past visiting Mullan 69-39 at Plummer.

The Knights, the No. 1-ranked Class 1A team in Idaho, started the game on a 19-4 roll.

Lakeside pulled down 32 boards and amassed 19 steals in the first half.

Arthur Elwell and Mike Sifford both scored 16 points to lead Lakeside.

Mullan got 17 points from Jesse James.

The Knights (19-1, 12-0) own a first-round playoff bye.
