Clinton: Tsunami aid used effectively

Associated Press

HONG KONG – Former President Clinton said Tuesday he believed the aid sent to tsunami victims in Asia was being used effectively, but the relief and rebuilding effort would take at least three years.

Clinton finished a three-day tour of tsunami-ravaged nations before visiting a Hong Kong bookstore to promote his new book, “My Life.”

When asked if the tsunami aid was being used properly, he said, “By and large I do.”

He added that nongovernmental organizations were doing a good job, and he was glad to see there were no major disease outbreaks.

“We have to be prepared to stay at this for three to five years,” he said about the relief and rebuilding effort.
