Don’t want to be first to unincorporate

Well, it looks like Silly Sally (Jackson) and her band of naysayers are at it again.

If they could see beyond their noses they would realize that this area is a city regardless of how much Jackson would like to be able to again “watch the corn grow from her rocking chair on her front porch.”

It was a city long before it was incorporated but lacked the ability to call the shots of government for itself. I am 78 years old and have watched this area change over the years from melon patches and fruit orchards to a full-fledged urban city.

Now that we are incorporated we have our own governing body in place and have the ability to have some say in how things are done to and for us, whereas under county control we had practically no such ability.

This area will continue to grow and become more urbanized regardless of how Jackson feels. If she wants to live in a place which is dying or has already died she should move to Malden or Pine City etc., but for heavens sake get out of the way and give this city a chance to progress.

Sure the economy of the entire nation is in trouble, but that was not the fault of this new city. If given a chance its economy will rebound along with the rest of the nation. We already see some signs of that happening. No other city has ever unincorporated in this state, and we sure don’t want to be the first.
