New Sports Club a full-service gym

 (The Spokesman-Review)

The Spokane Valley Sports Club has been open on East Sprague since Jan. 1 in a building formerly occupied by 24 Hour Fitness.

The business is owned by a group of California investors who own the building at 14210 E. Sprague Ave., said manager Bob Stoyko. “They didn’t have anybody to come in here, so they decided to open a business,” he said.

It was pretty much a given that it had to be a fitness club. “There’s not much else you can do with the building unless you plow it down,” Stoyko said. “What else can you do with a swimming pool and racquetball courts?”

Anyone who used the old gym will recognize the layout. It’s been kept exactly the same. “It’s a full-service gym,” he said. “We have all the cardio machines, the free weights.”

The club also has a swimming pool, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Membership fees range from $19.99 to $54.99 and can be signed for a year or two years or go month to month. “Anything we sell is full usage, seven days a week.”

The most expensive plan at $54.99 includes memberships for two parents and up to three children. Sessions with a personal trainer are extra, though new members get one free session to learn how to use the equipment and which exercises they should focus on to achieve their goals.

The club also offers numerous fitness classes such as yoga and spinning. Call 926-4100 for more information.

Sprague/Appleway couplet

The Spokane Valley City Council will hold a special meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday regarding the Sprague/Appleway couplet. The session is titled “Economic Impacts of Different Transportation and Land Options.”

The public meeting will be held at City Hall, 11707 E. Sprague Ave.
