My Favorite Car

1953 Ford Sunliner Convertible

Name: Jerry (and Pat) Nash, Spokane.

Purchased: In 1964, in Spokane, and again in 2004 in Chelan.

Why I love it: In 1964, my dad purchased for me a 1953 Ford Sunliner Convertible. Throughout high school, I spent ever spare dollar restoring my Ford. My steady girl and I went to the junior and senior proms and eventually got married in that old Ford. In 1969, I sold the Ford and over the years information about it somehow found its way to me. A couple years ago, I met one of the owners as he was driving it through Spokane to Montana. The Ford looked great, but it was bittersweet seeing it head down the highway. Early this summer, a friend told me the Ford was in Chelan, Wash., and for sale. Well, I didn’t waste much time driving to Chelan and, you guessed it, I bought it back. It has been restored and is even more beautiful than I remembered. They say you can’t reclaim your youth, but it certainly is a thrill to once again drive down the street with that steady girl of mine in my ‘53 Ford.

My next car will be: I am restoring a 1929 Model-A roadster.
