Gregory, Lawson help Golden Bears keep Washington State winless in Pac-10

Leigh Gregory and Jessica Lawson scored 14 points apiece to help California defeat Washington State 64-56 in Pac-10 women’s basketball play on Tuesday night in Berkeley, Calif.

The Bears (8-5, 2-2 Pac-10) never trailed, jumping out to a 12-2 lead. Washington State (4-9, 0-4) cut the margin to four late in the first half, but never got any closer.

Charmaine Jones, Jessica Perry and Kate Benz led the Cougars with 11 points each. Keisha Moore snagged a team-high eight rebounds, while Charmaine Jones handed out five assists.

The Cougars return home to face No. 22 UCLA on Friday.

(8)Stanford 74, Washington 61: Candice Wiggins scored 12 of her 15 points in the second half, and the Cardinal (11-2, 3-1) won their 30th straight Pac-10 home game with a victory over the Huskies (6-8, 2-2) in Stanford, Calif.

Kristen O’Neill finished with 16 points, six rebounds and three assists for Washington.

Football

Eastern Washington University senior offensive tackle Michael Roos was named NCAA I-AA lineman of the year by I-AA.org, the football website announced Monday.

EWU receiver Eric Kimble made the website’s all-star team, a group limited to 35 players.
