Around the Pac-10

The Spokesman-Review

Oregon State’s David Lucas didn’t waste any time in returning from injury last week. Lucas scored 51 points in three games, two of them conference contests, and that was good enough for the forward to be named Pac-10 player of the week. … Stanford guard Tim Morris, the team’s sixth man for much of the year and one of its best scoring threats, said in a statement that the NCAA ruling that he is academically ineligible for the rest of the season is because of fall quarter struggles in the school’s human biology core. Stanford plans to appeal on behalf of Morris, a National Honor Society member in high school with plans to become a doctor. But there’s no way the Cardinal can appeal the loss of another player, forward Evan Moore, who decided to leave the team to focus on football. … Arizona coach Lute Olson said he’d be “shocked” if Arizona State isn’t a first-division finisher, even after beating them in an 18-point victory last weekend. … UCLA senior guard Janou Rubin is out for the year because of a left knee injury, a loss that forces Dijon Thompson to the small forward position instead of his preferred spot at power forward.
