Two people were left homeless by a fire that burned a north Spokane tri-plex Monday night, the Spokane Fire Department reported.

The cause of the blaze at 2021 N. Post was not yet known, said fire investigator Lt. Mike Zambryski.

The building at the southwest corner of Post and Knox was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived late Monday night.

The two tenants were not home at the time of the fire. Only two of the apartments were occupied at the time of the fire, Zambryski said.

A 60-year-old man living in one of the apartments was placed in a hotel through the American Red Cross, he said. The fire department was still attempting to contact another woman who lived in the building.

“She has not been there, she’s been someplace for about a month or so,” Zambryski said.

Zambryski said he had plans to interview individuals who had recently moved out of the building about the blaze. The investigation will continue.
