Basketball

Feb. 26-27: Spring Classic Tournament for boys and girls grades four through eight. Info: 624-2414 x19.

Sign up: Register by Feb. 28 for Spokane County Parks and Rec 5-on-5 Men’s March Madness tournament. Games are played Monday through Thursday between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. with two games per week. Cost is $150 per team. Info: 477-4730 or www.spokanecounty.org/parks/data/recreation.asp.

Tryouts: The Spokane Stars AAU Club will hold tryouts for its elite teams during the club’s skills camps held each Sunday in January and February at University High. Tryouts for this Sunday only will be held at Horizon Junior High. Tryouts for girls in fifth, sixth and seventh grade are from noon to 2 p.m. Tryouts for all older age groups are from 2 to 4 p.m. There are openings in all age groups. Billiards

Fishing

Jan. 21: Ice fishing clinic, 7 p.m., White’s Outdoor, 4002 E. Ferry. Followed on Jan. 22 with an on the ice field session. Info: 535-1875.

Running

May 1: Sign up early for Bloomsday. Entrants who sign up in January have a chance to win a trip for two to the Carlsbad 5000. Online registration is open at www.bloomsdayrun.org. Cost is $10. Entry forms will be available March 1.

Skiing/snowshoeing

Jan. 29: Moonlight snowshoe and cross country ski tours at Mount Spokane, complete with dinner served at Selkirk Lodge, Sponsored by the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department. Cost is $25 or $29 for participants needing rental equipment. Pre-register by Monday. Next moonlight tour is set for Feb. 26. Info: 625-6200.

Feb. 25-27: Freeride Institute Ski Camp, Schweitzer Mountain, for intermediate to advanced skiers ages 10 and older, with instruction by a team of skiers including celebrities such as Rory Bushfield, Josh Loubek, Luke van Valin and Sarah Burke. Cost: $299. Info: (208) 660-9094.

Softball

Sign up: Spokane Softball Umpires Association looking for umpires for youth and adult programs that run March through October. Fast pitch, slow pitch and modified pitch. No experience necessary. Walking
